The main purpose of this site is to encourage and help equip people to follow the way of Jesus in today’s world. This post aims to show how I try to do that by providing an overview of the main features of the site.
The primary way I aim to encourage and equip readers is to signpost you to some of the best resources available to help you follow Jesus and grow as a Christian. You will find book reviews and other general resource reviews. I will only review books and resources I would recommend and, in the reviews, will explain how I think they can be helpful. A bank of such reviews will be built up gradually over the next few years.
For some of the books that I review, I will also write a book summary which you will find under LifeWord Summaries. These will include longer Chapter Summaries and shorter Key Points Summaries. Eventually, the hope is that there will be Lessons from a Life Summaries, based on biographies. I also hope that there will eventually be audio recordings of these summaries for those who prefer to listen rather than to read. I always recommend to read the actual books if possible, but at least LifeWord Summaries can provide with you some of the key ideas and insights. You may choose to read them as tasters to help you decide if you want to read them. Or as refreshers if you have read them before and want a reminder of the key ideas. Or, for some, you may have to read them as a digests, the next best thing to reading the books themselves, if you are unable to read them for whatever reason.
The Reviews and the Book Summaries will form the main spine of the site. I will then aim to accompany these with Articles, often based around the books reviewed, to help us reflect on important matters affecting faith in today’s world. As well as some of my own articles, I will direct you to many articles, podcasts and other materials across the internet that encourage a reflective faith.
Finally, I want to gradually build up some Resources that will help introduce new and growing Christians to important areas of Christian discipleship, of following the way of Jesus. A library of these resources will be gradually built up over time. To begin, I am starting with:
The Bible Tour – resurrecting a tool from over 15 years ago which helped people read the Bible in a year, with daily readings and weekly guides. These readings will be gradually backed up with support material, including Bible Book Backgrounds, Dictionaries of Biblical Images and Themes, and articles on some major truths taught in the Bible, eventually tracing the theme of a different kingdom through the Bible. This will be useful for anyone but especially those who are wanting to get to know the Bible better for the first time. I will build on the posts on this resource with regular links to the outstanding Bible Project and other excellent free resources to help you get a better overview of the Bible, its story and its teachings.
A Simple Theological Glossary – if you read reviews, articles and some of the resources on this site, you may well come across some theological words and terms that may be unfamiliar to you, especially if you are a new Christian. The plan is to gradually build up a glossary of these terms to provide simple and accessible introductions to them to the general reader. For most, I will then provide links to longer articles that explore them in greater depth.
LifePaths – the Christian life is a journey as we walk in the way of Jesus. LifePaths sets out to be a growing library of brief introductions to important areas of the Christian life, with signposts to other resources that can help you explore these in greater depth. There will eventually be several of these for new Christians, just setting out on the Christian path – called First Steps. There will also be a growing library of such resources for Christians who want to go on to greater maturity, called Further Steps.
The desire is to develop other resources that will help visitors to this site to follow the way of Jesus in today’s world. If you find it helpful, please recommend it to others and consider supporting this venture – you can find out how to do this at the Support page.
