In the Old Testament, we move from Psalm 102 to the end of the Psalms, reaching their grand conclusion of thanksgiving and praise. These final psalms remind us that, whatever our circumstances, the last word belongs to worship. From there we step into the opening chapters of Proverbs (1–11). Proverbs begins with the voice of a father urging his son to seek wisdom. Here we meet vivid contrasts: the way of life versus the way of death, Lady Wisdom calling in the streets, and folly leading the unwary astray. Wisdom is pictured as a treasure worth pursuing with all our hearts, shaping our choices in work, family, friendships, money, and justice.
In the New Testament, we continue in 1 Corinthians, where Paul calls a divided church to unity, love, and the hope of resurrection. We then move into 2 Corinthians, one of Paul’s most personal letters. Here he opens up his heart about weakness, suffering, and God’s comfort, reminding us that ‘we have this treasure in jars of clay.’ He urges the church to embrace reconciliation, generosity, and the transforming power of the new covenant. Finally, we reach Galatians, where Paul speaks with passion against false teaching and for the freedom we have in Christ. Here we encounter the famous contrast between the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. He offers an unforgettable vision of what life looks like when God’s Spirit shapes us from within.
As you read this month, may the psalms lift your heart in praise, Proverbs guide you in wisdom, and Paul’s letters strengthen your grasp of the gospel of grace and the freedom of life in the Spirit. You are making excellent progress—keep going!
