Welcome to October’s readings! You start the final quarter of readings this week. This month brings a rich mixture of wisdom and dramatic prophecy in the Old Testament, and deep truths pastorally applied in the New.
The next four weeks of readings cover the period from 1st to 28th October.

In the Old Testament this month you’ll finish Proverbs with the words of Agur, Lemuel, and the famous portrait of the noble wife. You then spend time in Ecclesiastes and the Song of Songs, two short but profound wisdom books: the first wrestles with life’s meaning and the second celebrates the central experience of romantic love. From there, you’ll move into the Prophets, beginning with Isaiah’s sweeping vision of judgment and hope. The first chapters of this great book set the stage with their strong calls to trust God in times of threat, while also pointing ahead to restoration, the coming Servant, and God’s final purposes.
In the New Testament, you’ll finish Paul’s fiery letter to the Galatians, with its ringing call to freedom in Christ and life in the Spirit. From there, you’ll journey into Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and 1 and 2 Thessalonians—letters filled with rich teaching on our identity in Christ, the unity of the Church, joy in suffering, and hope in the Lord’s return. By the end of the month, you’ll also begin 1 Timothy, where Paul urges his young co-worker to guard sound teaching and shape the household of God with wisdom and integrity.
May you be encouraged and inspired as you read this month!
