The Bible Tour is an invitation into a journey, a chance to discover, survey, and wander through the Bible’s rich landscapes of spiritual truth. When God spoke to Abraham, he said:
“Take a walk in every direction and explore the new possessions I am giving you.”
Genesis 13:17 (NLT)
This remains God’s invitation to us. We have been given a spiritual inheritance – our new life in Christ is our spiritual ‘territory’ that we are called to inhabit, a promised ‘land’ for us to possess. As we read Scripture, the Holy Spirit opens paths through this land, helping us understand and experience what is ours in Christ. The Bible itself uses the picture of the promised land as an illustration of this grace-given territory. Each time we open its pages, we take another walk into that land. The Bible Tour simply offers a guide for the journey.
What the Bible Tour Assumes
The Bible Tour begins with a few simple convictions:
- The Bible is divinely inspired and trustworthy in all it teaches.
- The Bible is a living word—active, sharp, and transformative.
“For the word of God is full of living power.
It is sharper than the sharpest knife,
cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires.”
Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)
Because of this, the Bible Tour does not major on historical questions, cultural settings, or debates about dates. Many excellent resources already serve that purpose. Instead, it highlights the Spirit-inspired themes that we can discern as threads throughout the whole of Scripture, repeated patterns that reveal God’s purpose and help us see the Bible’s great story.
This approach aims to do two things:
- Help you understand, appreciate, and experience the new life you have in Christ through the Holy Spirit.
- Help you see the big picture of God’s purpose—his desire not only to reconcile us personally, but to make all things new
It does this fundamentally through providing daily readings for the Old Testament and the New Testament, and weekly introductions and guides on what to expect, encouraging to keep going and enjoy what you are learning.
In the Daily Readings you’ll find monthly posts that introduce each week’s readings. These posts include:
- A short introduction to orient your reading
- A survey of the week’s main themes
- Daily readings linked through Bible Gateway (using the New Living Translation by default, though you may choose any translation you prefer)
There are also more links to help you get more out of your reading if that is what you want to do. See the post on How To Get The Most From The Bible Tour to discover some of these extras.
